INVESTIGATIVE DETENTION FOR UNIVERSITY OF TETOVA RECTOR

The Investigative judge of the Magistrate Court in Tetova (FYROM) ordered yesterday 8-day investigation detention periods for the rector of the University of Tetova, Dr.Fadil Sylejmani, as well as Milaim Fejziu, Arben Rosi and Qemal Shabani. All of them have been reportedly transferred to the Shuto Orizari prison house in Skopje.
Seven Albanians, who participated in the demonstrations of the last weekend in Tetova in support to the University of Tetova (UT), were sentenced to 30 days in prison each. Their dames have not been reported, however.
The UT rectorship said yesterday they would inform the students in due time as to when classes would resume.
The High OCSCE Commissioner for Human Rights and Minorities, Van der Stoel, met in Skopje with FYROM President Kiro Gligorov to discuss the newly created situation there, focussing on education rights of the national communities.
Unconfirmed reports from Skopje say that Van der Stoel met with PPD chairman Abdurrahman Haliti, also.
Albanian sources from Tetova say that leaders of the Albanian political parties are due to meet today with Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov.

KOSOVA GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR ADDRESSING OF FYROM ALBANIAN RIGHTS IN A 'GENUINELY JUST MANNER'
The Government of the Republic of Kosova expressed its full support for the newly-established University of Tetova in two separate statements issued on 19 and 21 February 1995, calling on the international community to "reconsider seriously its attitude towards FYROM and stop making concessions to Slavo Macedonians in difavor of the Albanian population".
"Events around the University of Tetova and their politicization by Slavo Macedonians of an elementary demand of the Albanians shows that it is Slavo Macedonians who do not accept equal partner in a state that is trying to establish itself, says Kosova Government adding that "nobody can require from them (FYROM Albanians) to accept the position of a secondary citizen".
The Government of Kosova warns FYROM authorities that a 'university cemented with the blood of the young can never be closed down".
The Government is further concerned at the fake charges field against the rector of the University of Tetova and his colleagues, for their "crime" is the demand for education within the legal framework of the newly-founded state. "Full responsibility will fall upon President Gligorov's government if the situation is not addressed in a genuinely just manner and in due time", says Kosova Government in the statements signed by Prime Minister Dr.Bujar Bukoshi and adds: "The new Macedonian state must understand that it can never be viable without the full cooperation of the Albanian people. The first step towards ensuring this cooperation would be to recognize Albanians as one of the constituent nations and state-forming entities of this small and unstable republic".
