Sam Sipepa Nkomo, ministro delle risorse idriche dello Zimbabwe, ha spiegato al Senato del suo paese che i lavori per le dighe di Mutare e di Gowke sono impediti dalla presenza di sirene (proprio nel senso di donne-pesce) disturbate dai lavoratori spaventati dall'essere rapiti nelle acque, e vi ha inviato dei capi tribali a svolgere dei rituali per calmarle
